Self Talk

Is your self-talk creating a self-fulfilling prophecy?

In a recent article 26 experts revealed their secrets about the subconscious mind that most people don’t know. Acclaimed Author and Mind Power Coach Todd Wissler said “The reason most people fail to become masters of their Mind Power is because they don’t know how the Subconscious Mind thinks. Since our Mind Power comes from our Subconscious, it’s essential to know the differences between it and the conscious mind.”

He then goes on to discuss the differences between the subconscious mind and the conscious mind. The Conscious being the rational, logical and analytical mind, with the subconscious mind being the total opposite (fantasy land) a world where there is no logic, rationale or analytics and anything is possible.

So in a nutshell, your subconscious will believe whatever you tell it! What have you been telling yours? The words you choose to speak to yourself both in your mind and out loud, are affecting your MINDSET. Ultimately your attitude, self- talk and your choice of words are affecting the results/consequences in your life. Are you letting your own mind play tricks on you?

We can either be masters or victims of our self-talk. We are where we are and who we are because of the thoughts that dominate our minds. If you believe and often make statements like “That’s impossible” or “I can’t” then that will be the result. Next time you catch yourself saying “I can’t”, turn around and challenge your own claim by asking yourself “Why can’t I?”

“But if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought”— George Orwell.

As each word is spoken (even if it’s only internal dialogue) a corresponding pathway opens up in your mind. Your language creates your beliefs, which forms emotions and emotions are the driver behind ALL human behaviour. Those emotions then create an action/behaviour (behaviour is a vehicle for dealing with and expressing human emotion) your behaviour then creates your results and consequences.

The first step to changing your language is AWARENESS. It will take some practice at first and to make a transition to positive self-talk you will need to be intimate with and confront the thoughts that run through your mind. When you hear your inner critic talking, choose to be aware of it, allow yourself to feel the emotion, be mindful of where it came from, and then politely show it the door before it becomes an action or behaviour. You can then replace that thought or those words with something positive. It will take time and energy, but with discipline and focus you can silence your inner critic and take complete charge of your own reality! You can do it!
