Art of Gratitude Part 2

As we explored the Art of Gratitude, the more we realised there was to uncover, so here is Art of Gratitude part 2.

Abundance and lack co-exist in our lives as alternate realities. It is up to us as humans to make conscious decisions about where we invest our energy. When we make a choice to focus on abundance, rather than what we are lacking, we begin to experience gratitude for the many blessings that are present in our lives- family, love, health, freedom, sunshine and beautiful places, people and things. When we free ourselves from the illusion of lack we can truly experience Heaven on Earth.

Research has shown that those who practice gratitude experience physiological, psychological and social benefits. On a physical level it’s been proven to strengthen the immune system, lessen aches and pains, lower blood pressure and improve sleep. Psychologically people become more alert and experience greater feelings of ‘aliveness’, joy, optimism and pleasure. Socially, those who practice gratitude are more kind, forgiving, supportive and generous. Taking a personal vow to be grateful could quite literally change your physiology and your reality.

Disconnect to Reconnect 
As technology has evolved everything has become disposable, we are always after the newest and the best of everything. We have learnt that if something is broken it can be discarded or replaced. This behaviour has altered our consciousness and we as humans have collectively become less grateful for what we have. People were created to be loved and things were created to be used and the reason the world is in chaos is because things are being loved and people are being used. People have become reliant on ‘things’ to feel good and technology to create a “connection”. Scrolling through our social newsfeeds can feed a sense of lack as we wonder why everyone else is happier, have more money than us, better relationships or are more successful. We begin to compare our lives to others when the truth is we are only seeing the highlights real of that persons life, carefully selected images through a series of filters. No one shares the sad or tough moments. So disconnect for a moment and refocus on yourself, what you are grateful for and what you do have. Spending less time on devices will also allow you to spend more time with people. How often do we sit at coffee with our friends, or at the dinner table and we are on our mobile phones? When you next catch up with friends or family make it a no phone zone, you’ll be amazed at the beauty of real conversation that occurs when everyone is truly present and in the moment.

Awaken your senses 
Connecting more deeply with our own body allows us to see it for what it is: a wonderful and miraculous gift. Being totally present as we touch, see, smell, taste, and hear allows us to feel incredible appreciation for being human and alive. Feeling gratitude for every breath that we take allows it to intensify and transform into a state of ‘being’ rather than ‘doing.’

Write yourself notes 
The 2 biggest challenges when trying to make changes are forgetfulness and a lack of conscious thought. Writing yourself love notes and putting them in places they will be seen often can help remind you. Places like the bathroom mirror, fridge, desk or computer screensaver are great places to leave yourself a note about what you are grateful for! You could even write yourself love letters about how amazing you are.

Practice grateful actions 
Grateful actions can be smiling, writing letters of gratitude, saying thank you, telling someone they are appreciated or even small gestures of kindness. When you practice these things, you trigger the experience of gratitude not only in your life, but in the lives of the people around you too. Tell people you love them more often; smile at random strangers as you pass them by (yes some of them might think you’re a crazy person). Giving thanks will not only make you feel amazing, it is contagious. Imagine if one simple smile created a chain reaction of positive energy throughout the world? The ripple effect could be endless.
